50 things I wish I could tell my younger self.
When I was young, I never imagined that my life would be much like a journey. Most of my childhood assumptions have been turned upside down over the years. Humble pie has been the main course, and it’s kept me nutritionally sufficient. The disparity of ideas between my younger and current self is extremely vast to almost comical when I meditate on them. The world isn’t what I thought it was. I often find myself saying, “If I knew then what I know now.” So this is my attempt to do something a bit cathartic with those ideas. If I could go back in time, what would I tell my younger self to prepare him for what’s to come?
50 things I wish I could tell my younger self
Strap in. It’s going to be one hell of a ride.
The demon in your home will be real. The pain will be real. You’re not crazy. You’ll survive it.
God will hear the prayers in the middle of the night while everyone else sleeps. Keep sending them.
You’ll never see the world as most people do. Accept this and don’t spend your energy trying to conform.
Parents are humans too. That means they come with many failure points. Be ready for them, but don’t let it discourage you.
Life isn’t designed around fairness. It’s designed around opportunity. Lions aren’t “King” because of anything they’ve done. They’re “King” because they were given the opportunity to be a lion.
Hard work will rarely gift an equal reward in life. But, if you work hard it can increase your chances for opportunities.
Wisdom will always trump knowledge. Seek God for it daily and life will make sense.
You’ll be fascinated with the Bible, but remember the people in its stories are no different from the people that will live in your day.
The world indoctrinates everyone with the false idea of linear progression and rejects the cycles of the natural cosmos. This will lead humanity to forever race towards what it cannot obtain. Don’t join the race.
You will experience survivors guilt with the death of friends in life. Reframe the situations as God’s grace that your days will be just a bit longer.
Remember nothing in life is promised. If you keep this teaching all good things that happen will be as gifts. Enjoy them while they last.
Life is not meant to be easy, but its hardships will make you more resilient. Suffer through them one prayer at a time. The end result is worth it.
God will feel distant at times. That is only because life’s ever accumulating distractions will stand between yourself and Him. You will need to constantly remove them to close the gap.
Be more ambitious about fulfilling God’s designed purpose and less ambitious about any one career or path the world will fabricate in its place.
People will become more mentally ill, diseased, exhausted, and divided. It will be a sign that nations have turned from Yahweh. A repeat of ancient history.
Nothing destroys a society faster than human pride. People would rather fight to be right than fight for peace and understanding.
People will have many different definitions of love. Rarely are they rooted in self-sacrifice.
God never forsakes His people. Don’t mistake misfortune for God not caring. He often makes good out of what was meant for evil. You’ll see this in your own life.
Seeking God will be a journey. You won’t find Him in the complicated inventions of modern man, but in the stillness and simplicity of what He purposed for His creation.
Many believers will fail to understand the concern that is spiritual warfare. They will constrain it to morality and a few Bible verses. Most people will never deal with demons, but they will contend with issues of morality and Bible verses.
Christian academia will institutionalize God’s knowledge and set Christ’s movement back thousands of years in an attempt to hold power. Don’t fret. Scholars will emerge to help God’s people break free from the satanic overreach. Yahweh is faithful to His people.
You will lose many Christian friends who fall victim to Christian academia’s ploys.
You will lose many Christian friends who fall victim to spiritual warfare.
You will lose many Christian friends who fall victim to hubris.
You will lose many Christian friends who fall victim to their own ideas about God instead of accepting God’s ideas about Himself.
You will lose many Christian friends simply by changing churches. A testament to who and what many will actually serve.
The goal of many churches will be to grow in size while refusing to increase the flock’s knowledge of scripture.
Faithfulness to the Lord trumps a corrupted system’s demands for obedience.
Children will arise in a world where they’ll seek technology for answers instead of mentors and the synthetic for entertainment instead of nature.
The world will establish what it means to be a successful member of society, but none of their ideas will be grounded in scripture.
The world operates as a machine but its mechanisms will be something that surpasses the ingenuity of man.
Humans will move so far away from their natural order they will seek the machine for advice in what’s appropriate to eat. As the most intelligent species on the planet they will fail to see the absurdity of it all.
Women will be convinced their role, which has carried human civilization since inception, is somehow oppressive. This will be a calculated experiment from the demonic realm and it will work to encourage the destruction of the family which will plant the seeds for societal decay.
Men will passively accept the affront on women and hide their insecurities behind fake bravado, LARPing with firearms, steroid use, and rage baiting through technology. They will fail to protect women from the demonic assault but will excel at puffing out their chest.
Children will be gender confused. This will be a net result from the destruction of the nuclear family and the objection to God’s moral standards and mandates.
Hubris and greed sit at the nucleus of the entire medical establishment. Don’t be surprised when it fails you.
The country will fail to care for those who served it or acknowledge their sacrifices, caring more about the comforts many died for.
The world will attempt to build a god through technology while rejecting the very notion of Yahweh. Their hubris will lead them to believe this god will serve them.
The world will become more violent as its members are hardened by continuous exposure to violence. It will remind you of the days of Noah.
Justice is not fair or well served. In the end you will be surprised if it is ever truly rendered at all. Lawlessness will arise within a nation of laws.
Truth will be replaced with lies. Lies will be accepted if they can bring the liar comfort.
Life is made more fulfilling by adding real value to the world instead of chasing what makes you happy.
Life is short and time is incredibly valuable. No day is promised so use time to the best of your ability. One day will be the last.
Remember that your gut instinct has always been right.
Say what needs to be said. Most will not. You’re a slave to Christ not to the world.
Exercise grace and meet people where they are, not where you expect or want them to be.
Protect your time. Its value is underrated until it has passed.
Protect your mind. Its value is underrated until it is lost.
Many will consider the blue pill to be perfectly sufficient for life.
